Around 1910, Kupka began to evolve his own form of nonobjective art, which incorporated both Lyrical curvilinear forms and strong architectonic geometrical elements. The twenty-five woodcuts Kupka created for this volume display the full range of his mature expression, dramatically rendered in stark black and white.« (Logan Collection). – Kupka’s lapidary etchings, which embellished several books of classical texts made during the early years of this century, are part of the foundation of the decorative characteristics encountered in this book.
