english description:
With six lithographs by Picasso and 30 illustrations. Loose double-leaves in original wrapper and cloth case.
First edition. – One of 50 copies with an extra suite of numbered lithographs and seven additional ones not included in the book, printed on Hodumura Japan paper (total print run of 250). – Edition note signed by Picasso in red chalk. – On Vélin d’Arches. – The copies contain the following original lithographs: front cover (in color, Bloch 779), back cover (in color, Bloch 793), frontispiece (in color, Bloch 794), page 91 (in color, Bloch 428), vignette above the plate list (black, Bloch 430), and the vignette below the colophon (black, Bloch 432). – Jaime Sabartés became Picasso’s secretary in 1935 and remained so for many years. Hardly anyone gained such a detailed insight into Picasso’s creative phases, working methods, and understanding of art. – »The friendship of Picasso and Sabartés, in recent years the artist’s secretary, goes back more than sixty years, to their youth in Barcelona. In this book Sabartés‘ text serves as an introduction to Picasso’s studio, where the reader may browse among the artist’s work. The volume was conceived by Mourlot in 1945 and the plates were chosen and their printing approved by Picasso.« (Eleanor M. Garvey).
Case edges faded. – Foxing throughout. All pages of suite with slight foxing, partially very few foxing sports in the illustrations. One page more affected.
