english description:
Featuring six zincographs, three with etchings, all on a single sheet.
A very rare ephemera. – One of 174 copies (out of a total of 200), not yet cut and folded in perfect condition. – Printed on behalf of the author by Grou-Radenez, Paris. – Hugnet’s text, which had been written as early as January 1940, was printed in brown over Picasso’s marginal drawings. – This small, clandestine homage to his artist friend Picasso appeared during the German occupation of France. Further editions with similar designs followed, illustrated by Valentine Hugo and Marcel Duchamp, respectively, which were likely distributed secretly as gifts. – »The majority of these pamphlets seem to have been distributed clandestinely among the poet’s friends and associates as a form of defiance to the German Occupation.« (R. F. Johnson, in: Logan Collection 2001).
