english description:
Ten color lithographs. With a five-color preliminary leaf and the text page with the colophon, loose in a cardboard folder with a mounted spine title.
One of 150 copies; an additional 15 were not released for sale. – Signed in their own hands by Arp, Delaunay, and Magnelli in the colophon, along with the stamped signature of Sophie Taeuber-Arp, who died in 1943. – On Velin d’Arches paper. – The ten lithographs are collaborative works by two to three of the four artists in each case; the graphic table of contents lists the respective contributors. – Printed by Edmond and Jacques Desjobert, Paris. – The portfolio was named after the location of their collaborative artistic work. Arp recalls: »In 1941, Sophie and I fled Paris for Grasse, from where we intended to emigrate to the United States. In Grasse, we were reunited with Sonja Delaunay, Alberto, and Susi Magnelli, our friends. […] We drew, painted in watercolor, and created lithographs together, thus producing one of the most beautiful books. Every form of collaboration was explored in this book. […] Despite the ominous times, for me the work from that period ranks among the most beautiful experiences I have ever had« (quoted from Arntz). – The portfolio, which was self-published only after the end of the war, appeared under the imprint »Aux nourritures terrestres,« named after André Gide’s early work.
Slightly discolored, with slight foxing on the edges. The two lithographs and the colophon show more severe foxing. – Without slipcase.
