english description:
Includes 17 aquatint etchings, seven of which are in color, with one on the cover. Loose double sheets in their original wrapper. All together in a cloth chemise and slipcase.

First edition. – One of 25 copies of the special edition featuring an additional set of 13 etchings, all signed and numbered (total print run of 200). – Signed by the artist and author in the colophon. – Printed on handmade Auvergne paper from Richard-de-Bas. – Printed by Fequet et Baudier, Paris; the etchings were printed by Crommelynck. – Pierre Jacob (1905–1985) adopted the pseudonym Tal-Coat in the 1920s. In Paris, he associated with Gertrude Stein, Francis Picabia, Ernest Hemingway, Alberto Giacometti, Balthus, Antonin Artaud, Tristan Tzara, and Paul-Émile Victor; from 1935 onward, he was a member of the “Forces nouvelles” group. Alongside Joan Miró and Raoul Ubac, he contributed to the design of the Fondation Maeght in 1963 by creating a mosaic for the entrance wall, and in 1968 he received the Grand Prix National des Arts. – From his figurative and expressionist beginnings to the boldness of the abstract paintings of his maturity, Tal Coat worked to restore the deep agreement between painting and nature, through the space, the material, the light and the color of his paintings, a pictorial research constantly renewed with freedom.
Slight foxing throughout, some pages more affected, the suite pages mostly just at the edges.
