english description:
Advertising port-folio and slipcasetcard, single-color letterpress print. Circa 1926. 10.5 × 14.8 cm.

Very rare advertising port-folio and slipcasetcard from Kurt Schwitters’ advertising agency. – Features two sample advertisements and the text »Die gute Reklame ist billig« by Max Burchartz; on the right is an original advertising text, introduced by Bismarck’s quote about undrunk beer: »[…] Merz Werbe creates the most effective advertisements for you, both in terms of copy and typography. Our designs are thought through to the very last detail, both artistically and from an advertising perspective, and are no more expensive than usual.”). In addition to the address in Hanover, the card lists the address of Margit von Plato—who would later become Hans Scharoun’s wife—in Dresden as a contact address. – On the reverse, there is typewritten text and a handwritten signature by Helma Schwitters, dated January 9, 1930, addressed to Marianne Brandt: »Es war sehr schade, dass Sie Neujahr nicht zu uns kommen konnten, aber es war doch dieses Mal gut […] denn ich legte mich Sylvesternachmittag mit einer scheusslichen Influenza, Ernst, unser Bub, folgte und ein paar Tage später auch ›Sweet‹. […] Gefällt es ihnen in Gotha?« (transl: “It was a real shame that you couldn’t come to visit us for New Year’s, but it turned out for the best this time […] because I came down with a terrible case of the flu on New Year’s Eve afternoon; Ernst, our boy, followed suit, and a few days later, ‘Sweet’ did too. […] Are you enjoying your time in Gotha?”) – Marianne Brandt (1893–1983) trained in the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar under Moholy-Nagy and Christian Dell. In 1926, she designed her first lighting fixtures for the new building in Dessau and headed the Bauhaus metal workshop from the spring of 1928 until her departure from the Bauhaus. Starting in 1929, she worked in Gotha as a designer for the Ruppel metal goods factory. – In perfect condition. – From the estate of Marianne Brandt, in private collection ever since.
