Eins von 95 Exemplaren (Gesamtauflage 145). – Auf Vélin d’Arches, speziell für diese Edition angefertigt. – Vom Künstler signiert und nummeriert. – Neben den herrlichen Radierungen, die noch vor Erscheinen des Buches von Paul Valery und André Gide gelobt wurden, beeindruckt die opulente Typographie mit dem Satz aus einer großen Kursivschrift mit leuchtend roten Initialen. – Nachdem Mallarmés Dichtungen bereits von Renoir (1926), Dufy (1928) und Morisot (1931) illustriert wurden, legte Albert Skira 1932 das erste »Livre d’artist« von Henri Matisse vor, das zu Recht sofort internationale Begeisterung erregt: »Le livre paraît en octobre 1932 et reçoit un accueil chaleureux à Paris, Londres, New York où il est exposé à la Galerie Marie Hariman.
