Indeed, the 9 double pages in ›La Maigre‹ form a symmetrical suite […] The drypoint on the cover, in which five sections are arranged in the manner of a coat-of-arms, seems to confirm the design of this mise en page […]«. (Goeppert/Cramer). – Das bemerkenswerte Buch geht auf einen Buchmarkt-Fund von Iliazd zurück. Der Text des später identifizierten Comte de Cramail von 1630 machte sich über eine sehr dünne Dame lustig. Iliazd lobt den Text und schildert, dass die französische Literatur nur kurze Zeit später durch Richelieu und die Academie Française reguliert worden wäre. – Picasso verlegte die ersten Kupferplatten, die ihm Iliazd geschickt hatte, 1951 war die Arbeit aber abgeschlossen. – »Iliazd consistently is the most demanding and original publisher who worked with Picasso. In this beautifully choreographed volume, he resurrected a long forgotten seventeenth-century satirical text by Adrian de Monluc entitled ›La Maigre‹, the story of the plight of an extremely thin woman whose hard, fleshless bones no one wished to embrace.« (R. One of 52 copies on “Chine d’autrefois”; in this edition eight additional proof copies as well as 14 artist and publisher’s copies on Japanese paper. – Signed on the title page with the colophon too by the artist and publisher.

This remarkable book traces its origins to a find Iliazd made at a book market. The text, later identified as the work of the Comte de Cramail from 1630, poked fun at a very slender lady. Iliazd praises the text and notes that French literature would soon thereafter be regulated by Richelieu and the Académie Française.
