english description:
With 100 full-page color lithographs, some with lithographed text. Loose double sheets in a color-lithographed original protective wrapper. Cardboard slipcase.

One of 1,200 copies on Vélin d’Arches, plus 30 “hors commerce” copies. – Signed by the artist in the colophon. – The text written by Matisse on the lithographic stones was embellished by him with colored borders and full-page variations of the “Fleur de lys.” The five full-sheet portraits are of particular graphic appeal. – All lithographs in black, red, green, blue, yellow, and violet, all printed by Mourlot Frères under the artist’s supervision. – A very fine copy of this artist’s book, which at first glance may seem somewhat “disrespectful” in its playfulness toward the king’s poetry.
