Die bibliophile Ausgabe war das erste von Henri Laurens (1885–1954) illustrierte Buch, weitere folgten erst zwanzig Jahre später. – »These first book illustrations by Laurens recall his flat, compressed sculptured reliefs. Like the playwright, the artist depicts the Pélican family with a jaunty humour« (Eleanor M. Garvey). – »[…] this thin book is the Cubist sculptor Laurens’s first attempt at printmaking as well as illustration.
