Eins von 150 Exemplaren, daneben wohl 15 »h.c.« – Auf Montval Bütten. – Die kleine Mappe enthält neben den signierten und nummerierten Radierungen Eluards Dichtung im französischen Original (signiert vom Dichter) und in englischer Übersetzung von Brian Coffey (von diesem signiert). Das dritte Doppelblatt mit Titel und Druckvermerk. – »When Paul Eluard wrote the suite of 5 poems he called ›Novembre 1936‹, he broke one of the rules of Surrealism laid down by Breton – namely, that which proscribed the poetry of circumstance – and openly espoused a political (in this case, antifascist) cause.« (Goeppert/Cramer). – Die fünf Gedichte »Novembre 1936« von Eluard waren zuerst in »L’Humanité«, der Tageszeitung der Kommunistischen Partei Frankreichs, erschienen. Zumindest Picasso sah in der Idee, eine kleine Graphikedition dieses Textes zu publizieren, eine weitere Möglichkeit, den spanischen Widerstand gegen die Franco-Putschisten zu unterstützen, wie er das 1937 bereits mit »Sueño y mentira de Franco« (siehe KatNr. 67) getan hatte. – Vier der sieben Künstler arbeiteten zeitweise in dem von Hayter gegründeten Atelier 17, wo alle sieben Radierungen gedruckt wurden.

One of 150 copies, along with probably 15 marked „H.C.“ – On Montval laid paper. – In addition to the signed and numbered etchings, the small portfolio contains Éluard’s poetry in the original French (signed by the poet) and in an English translation by Brian Coffey (signed by him). The third double sheet bears the title and printer’s imprint. – Four of the seven artists worked at times in Studio 17, founded by Hayter, where all seven etchings were printed. – With this portfolio, the artists supported 1938 the anti-Franco brigades, just as Picasso had done in 1937 with his etching „Franco’s Lies“.
